The Erskine Family's
"LIVING BOOKS FOR THE EARS" Newsletter

June 22, 2006

In this issue:
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

Dear Friends,

Son Russell & I are gearing up to head to Scout Camp next week, so I'm trying to get a bunch of things done here this week before our week-long "vacation" in the woods with 700 of our closest scouting pals.

Actually, while the boys are there to earn merit badges and have fun and swim and fish and run around and generally be wild, I personally consider this to be my very own "fitness spa", as I lose several pounds each year during camp week. It's either all the walking we do... or the heat... or the mosquitoes drinking copious quantities of my blood... or the grade-school cafeteria-ish food they serve all week. Whichever it is, we can't wait do do it one more time!

Meanwhile, we thought y'all might enjoy seeing one of my cartoons. Feel free to copy and paste this, pass along to friends, post elsewhere, or even use in your local newsletters. Just don't monkey around with it. Here's a link to a black & white version too....

If you want to see more of these, drop us a line and let us know. If you don't want to see any more of these, let us know that too. Our feelings won't be hurt.

Meanwhile, enjoy this week's great program!

Best Wishes,
The Erskine Family

Okay, now onward to this week's program...

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
by Mark Twain

Considered one of the greatest American novels of all time, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain is a lively tale of the scrapes and adventures of boyhood is set in St. Petersburg, Missouri, where Tom Sawyer and his friend Huckleberry Finn have the kinds of adventures many boys can imagine: racing bugs during class, impressing girls, especially Becky Thatcher, with fights and stunts in the schoolyard, getting lost in a cave, and playing pirates on the Mississippi River. This delightful half hour audio adaptation of Twain's classic story was originally broadcast on My Favorite Story, a syndicated radio program that aired in the late 1940s.

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

READ THE INSTRUCTIONS below if you are unfamiliar with downloading a file or are having any problems with your download.

To download a program, RIGHT click (use the right hand button on your mouse) the link above, and "save target as" (or "save link as") to the directory of your choice.

The file should start downloading right away. If it doesn't, try it again, and follow these instructions carefully. (DON'T cut and paste this link into your web browser -- that will just PLAY the program over the internet (it will be jumpy and start & stop a lot), and will not DOWNLOAD the program. If you want to download it to your computer, you need to follow the above instructions.)

NOTE: If the file just starts playing over your computer right away, that's because you clicked the link with the LEFT hand button on your mouse. You need to click the RIGHT HAND button to download the whole show to your computer.

IF you right click the link and your computer does not allow you to "save target", you need to adjust your computer's security settings (or disable your "internet content advisor" settings) to allow downloaded files.

MAC USERS: In order to download these files, hold down the Control key then click the link with your mouse.  It will then download to the directory you choose.

If your download is unusually slow, it could be because our server is busy or overtaxed. You might try again at a later hour. It should - eventually - work fine.

This file will be available for the next week or two only, so don't put off downloading it if you want a copy.
