In this issue:

The Long Winter
by Laura Ingalls Wilder
PLUS: A New Adventure with Sgt. Preston of the Yukon!

Dear Friends,

We know some of you long time listeners have seen this one before, but we continually get requests to bring it back again, so here you go...

THE LONG WINTER

By popular demand, we again present this fine interpretation of Laura Ingalls Wilder's "Little House" book, "The Long Winter". This Ingalls family is quite different than the one you saw on TV, but it is a very faithful adaptation of the book, and is quite entertaining. If you love the Wilder books, you'll treasure this. This broadcast was originally aired way back in 1950 on the radio version of the Hallmark Playhouse. (Download link for this program is a ways below.)

SGT. PRESTON OF THE YUKON:
THE DACHSHUND

Next up, in keeping with our cold weather theme, we present a new episode of Sgt. Preston of the Yukon / Challenge of the Yukon! In this episode, a Swedish immigrant named Fritz, who has an odd little dachshund dog named Schnitzel, also has a claim in a brand new gold mine. When some crooks decide to help themselves to Fritz's gold, it is up to the little dog -- and Sgt. Preston -- to come to the rescue. This fun, exciting episode was originally broadcast ond December 11, 1945. (Again, the download link for this program is a ways below.)

ADVENTURE, CHIVALRY & HONOR

Once upon a time, long, long ago... things like LOYALTY and HONOR and CHIVALRY were highly prized virtues, and the chance to prove it could be waiting for you just around the next bend in the road.  Our newest collection, "KNIGHTS, KNAVES & KINGS", takes you back to those days of history and high-adventure. If you've got kids who have a taste for living history, adventure, and old-fashioned virtues, we'd highly recommend you give this one a try. Click here for details!

YOU BETTER... MAKE YOUR OWN RADIO SHOW!

We DO hope you might squeeze a few hours in to your homeschool time to try your hand at our "Make Your Own Radio Show" contest! You'll be surprised just how much your kids will learn simply by putting on a simple little performance. We've gotten a few entries in this year's contest already -- and they are delightful! We need more! We want you to enter! And by the way, GROUPS of homeschooled kids & families may also submit entries, if you want to recruit extra help.

If you've enjoyed the radio shows that are featured free on our site...you know pretty much all you need to know to create your OWN audio "old time radio" story. Plus, this year, we have a really cool FREE "Sound Effects Library" you can use to add lots of fun and excitement to your entry! Click here to get the full details of this fun and educational contest!

We've had several folks help us out by passing along information on this contest to other homeschooling families and friends. If you could do the same, we'd sure appreciate it. Just a simple note on your favorite homeschool mailing loop or forum, or a brief mention in your local newsletter would be wonderful! Just let them know that the contest exists, and give them a link to www.chirotoons.com/rules.html for more info. Thanks!

READ THE INSTRUCTIONS below if you are unfamiliar with downloading a file or are having any problems with your download.

To download a program, RIGHT click (use the right hand button on your mouse) the link above, and "save target as" (or "save link as") to the directory of your choice.

The file should start downloading right away. If it doesn't, try it again, and follow these instructions carefully. (DON'T cut and paste this link into your web browser -- that will just PLAY the program over the internet (it will be jumpy and start & stop a lot), and will not DOWNLOAD the program. If you want to download it to your computer, you need to follow the above instructions.)

NOTE: If the file just starts playing over your computer right away, that's because you clicked the link with the LEFT hand button on your mouse. You need to click the RIGHT HAND button to download the whole show to your computer.

IF you right click the link and your computer does not allow you to "save target", you need to adjust your computer's security settings (or disable your "internet content advisor" settings) to allow downloaded files.

MAC USERS: In order to download these files, hold down the Control key then click the link with your mouse.  It will then download to the directory you choose.

If your download is unusually slow, it could be because our server is busy or overtaxed. You might try again at a later hour. It should - eventually - work fine.

This file will be available for the next week or two only, so don't put off downloading it if you want a copy.
