Outposition Your Competition Dear Jim, You may have noticed a glut in the "information for sale" business. Especially online! The competition may seem fierce at first glance... but don't worry. Like the average classified ad in a business opportunity magazine... they'll be here today and gone tomorrow. The reason is simple. Most marketers are in a hurry to "join" the crowd. The real secret is to "out position" it. That's right. You can out position the competition. Think about all of the "Copywriting Secrets" products on the market. Everyone has a course, special report, etc. for sale. The same with Internet Marketing. Assuming that everyone's funds are limited in some way shape or form... this leaves us with a clear cut mission. 1. You have to identify your competitors 2. You have to understand exactly what they're offering (or the perceived benefits of what they're offering). 3. You have to out position them so the cold-hard cash that would have been plunked down on their products are plunked down on your instead. Recently I read a newsletter by a copywriter from Texas named Mike Jezek. His web site is at http://www.irresistiblecopywriting.com/ His web site may not look a whole lot different than other copywriting web sites, but his insights he shares in his newsletter are definitely that of a person who understands this concept. All things being equal, he'll be around after much of the hyped competition drops off the radar. The same goes for Internet Marketer Terry Dean - http://www.bizpromo.com/ Outposition the competition by giving them a reason for buying from YOU FIRST. How can you accomplish this? First, you must focus upon the BENEFITS that come from owning your publications, not the publications themselves. You may be familiar with the standard "features vs benefits" example, but let me put it to you another way; If you do it right, your publications will turn people into "believers." Believers in what? Believers in accomplishing exactly what your publications are promoting. Your competition tells people how to lose weight. Yours not only tells them... it makes them BELIEVE they can! Your competition tells people how to get out of debt. Your makes them BELIEVE they can! The competition tells people who to write "killer sales letters." Yours makes them BELIEVE they can! Do you see this powerful combination? It's information and inspiration, working hand-in-hand. Results follow action. Action follows belief. Belief follows information. Or, we could word it the other way around. First comes information... then belief... then action... then results. Secondly, learn how to stand out in the crowd. This isn't as hard as you may think. Some put a different twist on an old topic. Jay Conrad Levinson became the first "Guerilla" marketer. The concepts and ideas weren't new. The presentation was. Bill Myers, before shifting his focus, was the "Product Development King," using simple tools to produce to selling software and information products. Ken Evoy became the originator of the "Make Your __________ Sell" products - super large eBooks with low price points. The list can go on and on. Don't be afraid to think "out of the box." Different is good! Now is the time to ask yourself the question; "What do I want to be known as? What role will I step into?" It's up to you. Just be certain you don't become another of the rubber stamp, carbon copies of what's already out there. Outpostion your competition. Make the necessary adjustments to stand out in the crowd. And last but not least, enjoy yourself. Sure, there are setbacks, headaches, etc. That's part of every business. Publishing information is the best business in the world. Simple information.
