The Jimmy Krug Report December 2003 ================================================================= Welcome to the December Issue of: THE JIMMY KRUG REPORT ----------------------------------------------------------------- CONTENT 1. Booklet Publishing For Infoprenuers 2. Back Issues of The Jimmy Krug Report ################################################################# Dear Jim, Once you get the hang of it and have the necessary tools... you' ll be able to crank out a booklet from start to finish in less than a week. Not only that, but you'll be able to do the entire process - right from your desktop. Here's what you'll need: 1. Software: I ordered CorelVentura 11 a few weeks ago. Currently, I'm using version 8. You can use Microsoft Publisher, too. It has a "Book" template that works just fine for booklets. Another nice program is PagePlus from Serif. 2. A Laser Printer: I prefer laser printers to inkjets when it comes to printing the interior pages. You don't have to worry about the ink bleeding through the pages. Not to mention the fact that it's cheaper per page - ink-wise. 3. A Color Printer: If you're going to print your own covers... you can get a great looking cover from many of today's low-cost inkjets. Also, you can get a nice cover stock (even photo-finish stock) if you want to print a photo on the cover). 4. A Binding System: Believe it or not, with a little bit of practice... you can use a long-arm stapler! Once you use a "real" bookletmaker, though... you'll never want to go back! And then again, if you're not sure... you can bring your printed, unfolded pages and covers to your local printshop. The only other thing you'll need is a source for your information. If you're an expert in the subject already... that' s taken care of. If not, there are more sources of information available today than ever before. Create an outline and you're ready to go. BOOKLET PUBLISHING FOR INFOPRENUERS Since the 1980's, I've watched scores of infoprenuers come and go. The appeal of selling your very own "How-To" information is awesome and sometimes - downright overwhelming. When the smoke clears however, you don't want to find yourself like so many others do... wondering why their products didn't sell. It takes a while to create a larger infoproduct. Not to mention more money. Imagine taking months and months to create your product - only to have it bomb? Instead, roll out a simple booklet publication. If you have too much info for a single booklet, create two or possible three. If you're not into multiple cover designs, just add a I, II and III to the cover design. IF IT WORKS... IF IT DOSEN'T Magazine ads are getting more costly with each passing year. Many infoprenuers are digging in their trenches online these days. And that's okay. If you can get some traffic (a subject that can't be covered here) you'll know whether or not you have a winner on your hands. If your booklet sells and the feedback is good... you may want to consider a course on the subject. Possible a course on CD? Or a bound paper-product? The choices are many. The thing is; you'll be able to test the market in the shortest amount of time possible. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. Not every product is a runaway, smash-hit. If you invest a week creating your product ( or even two) and it flops... you'll won't have to deal with the "demoralizing factor." Investing several months or more of time and energy into a "dud" (that you were convinced was going to be an all-time best-seller) can take the wind out of your sails FAST. Don't let it happen to you! - Jimmy ----------------------------------------------------------------- 2.
