Greetings Friends!

Here we are with this week's "Living Book for the Ears" program! While we wait for a photo of our 2nd Place winners to arrive, this week we present our Third Place Winner in the 2007 "Make Your Own Radio Program" Contest... Arnold Winkelreid by Nathan Pilling. This is a moving dramatization of this classic true tale of heroism and bravery, as featured in "50 Famous Stories Retold" by James Baldwin.

(If you missed last week's program, our First Place Winner "Horatius at the Bridge" by Jonathan Girotti, click here.)

Hey... Our Newest Collections are coming soon!

Speaking of "50 Famous Stories Retold", we are just putting the finishing touches on our great new Audiobook version of this classic collection of stories to be released later this month. What makes our audio version of this book especially neat is that all of our readers are homeschooled kids themselves.  Baldwin's versions of these classic stories of bravery, valor and kindness are already great... but it is a true delight to hear them performed so well by these talented young readers. Your kids will really enjoy these... and in the process will become acquainted with some time-honored stories which have become so incorporated into literature and history that a knowledge of them is an indispensable part of one’s education.

But our new CD set doesn't end there. We've also produced a wonderful audio version of Baldwin's follow up book, "Thirty More Famous Stories Retold"!  Baldwin wrote this follow-up book of longer stories for kids who had enjoyed "50 Stories" and were asking for more... but those same young readers were also growing up and needed something a bit more challenging to read. Thus the tales in this collection are somewhat longer and have quite a bit more depth to them. To be honest with you, this book has been virtually overlooked by the homeschooling curriculum-makers... but we actually found it an even richer, more satisfying collection of stories than the classic "50"! We have no doubt you will treasure this audio collection as well.

In addition to the above, you'll find lots more surprises and many hours of additional bonus audio material on these CDs. We'll give you the complete details on this set in our next newsletter... but for now, let us just suggest you make a spot in your history and literature plans for the upcoming school year, because you will definitely want to make these a part of your kid's homeschool studies this Fall.

Best Wishes,
The Erskines

Okay...Here is This Week's Program:

3rd Place Winner of our
2007 "Make Your Own Radio Program" Contest!

Nathan Pilling's
Arnold Winkelreid

Nathan Pilling's excellent interpretation of the story of Arnold Winkelreid was our judges' choice for 3rd Place in our contest this year. Nathan actually gives us TWO versions of the story: One based on James Baldwin's tale in "50 Famous Stories Retold", and then his own interpretation of Winkelreid's thoughts as he faced the ultimate decision.  Nathan wrote:  "Making this show was a great opportunity to learn about a fictional story with a powerful real-life meaning. Arnold Winkelreid is a great example of bravery, courage, and honor who helped me to understand what these characteristics mean."  This is a true heroic tale you will long remember.  Congratulations Nathan!

READ THE INSTRUCTIONS below if you are unfamiliar with downloading a file or are having any problems with your download.

To download a program, RIGHT click (use the right hand button on your mouse) the link above, and "save target as" (or "save link as") to the directory of your choice.

The file should start downloading right away. If it doesn't, try it again, and follow these instructions carefully. (DON'T cut and paste this link into your web browser -- that will just PLAY the program over the internet (it will be jumpy and start & stop a lot), and will not DOWNLOAD the program. If you want to download it to your computer, you need to follow the above instructions.)

NOTE: If the file just starts playing over your computer right away, that's because you clicked the link with the LEFT hand button on your mouse. You need to click the RIGHT HAND button to download the whole show to your computer.

IF you right click the link and your computer does not allow you to "save target", you need to adjust your computer's security settings (or disable your "internet content advisor" settings) to allow downloaded files.

MAC USERS: In order to download these files, hold down the Control key then click the link with your mouse.  It will then download to the directory you choose.

If your download is unusually slow, it could be because our server is busy or overtaxed. You might try again at a later hour. It should - eventually - work fine.

This file will be available for the next week or two only, so don't put off downloading it if you want a copy.
