***************************** THE JIMMY KRUG REPORT ***************************** January 2002 Hi Jim, I apologize for being late with the January edition of "The Jimmy Krug Report." I've been onto something pretty big offline (again) that's taken up a bunch of my time. Plus. I've just finished an online project that will enable the average booklet author to shift their marketing plan into overdrive. It's already working for several of my close friends. but I'll have more on that in a little bit. For now, let's get down to the Simple Publishing Business. ON DEMAND PRINTING FOR THE HOME USER Not too long ago I spoke about an Epson printer that had the ability to print with water resistant ink. Upon further investigation. I've found that there are currently several models on the market that will do this. The original model I stumbled across last month was the EPSON STYLUS C80. Currently, there's a $30 rebate being offered by mail. This printer will allow you to create quality covers that won't smear, rub, or smudge. To get the best price possible on this very affordable printer, do a price comparison at http://www.mysimon.com The equipment needed to produce a handful of high-quality booklets (as demos) is available at lower prices than ever before. How important is it to have sample booklets available as marketing tools when attempting to sell to BIG companies and organizations? Let me put it this way. I NEVER sold ANYTHING without having samples available to help "close the show." Not even once. What does that tell you? For people of faith, believing comes before SEEING. For 99% of all key decision makers. the exact opposite is true. SEEING is believing! Am I saying that you'll never sell thousands of booklets if you don't follow these instructions? No. I'm just saying that I can almost guarantee that it will ALWAYS be a lot harder. And that's why you're reading this newsletter, right? Your goal is to arrive at your destination the easiest way possible. GATHERING INFORMATION "THE LAZY WAY" I'm not a lazy guy. Well, I'm not lazy most of the time, anyway. Want to see me at my "sluggish" worst? Just ask me to do a little research. I compete on an even level with the little things that crawl through the grass. In High school I paid my good friend John to do my history reports. That's LAZY. Now I pay him to do my accounting. He's a CPA. I just never wanted to do the research. These days things are much different. I have a team of hundreds of specialists. including lawyers, editors, doctors and an entire host of professional people with impressive credentials working for me. I personally pay them peanuts for their efforts, too. Although, they've never complained to me about it personally. Who are they? They're the numerous authors and columnists who literally "litter the isles" at my local Barnes and Noble - and Books-A-Million bookstores. They'll work for you, too! In fifteen to thirty minutes. you can have more information than you can handle about just about any subject you can dream of. All the legwork has been done for you. For the price of a magazine or book off the shelf, you can benefit from untold hours of someone else's research. CREATE A BOOKLET IN JUST A FEW DAYS Using the "Mega-bookstore Research Method" (otherwise known as MBRM), you can create simple booklets based upon today's hottest subjects and topics. I've mentioned this method before and it absolutely infuriates some people. They think it's cheating, plagiarizing. you name it. Look, if you're married with children. time isn't exactly on your side from one day to the next. MBRM gives you an unbelievable advantage when you're up against the "ticking" of the clock. LOOKING FOR CONTROVERISAL INFORMATION? Check out the newspapers and "mini-books" located at the checkout lanes at your local food stores and Walmart Stores. SALES LETTERS ON THE FLY? Check out the back covers of whatever books you can find on your chosen topic. For instance, let's say you're creating a booklet on Real Estate Secrets of the twentieth century. Find a book on the topic and check out that back cover. That's where you'll find the skeleton or foundation for your sales letter. Looking for high-impact headlines? You'll find them on the covers of magazines. The point is this, when you're in the learning phase of the publishing business. you can't create everything from scratch. You're not experienced enough. And your time investment is a serious consideration. Try these methods out for yourself. You'll be pleasantly surprised by the results. And your days of staring at a "blank" piece of paper will be far behind you.
