In this issue:
Ladybug Invasion!
Mr. President

Dear Friends,

Just as I breathed a sigh of relief that our first frost killed off the pesky bermuda grass & I don't have to mow every week anymore (yay!), it also ushered in...

...oh NOOOO!!!

the INVASION OF THE LADY BUGS!
(aka Multicolored Asian Lady Beetles)

Yes, they are back, hundreds and hundreds of them, crawling around the walls of my white office (they like white) and milling aimlessly around my ceiling like a gang of hoodlums, just looking for trouble... waiting for an opportune moment to drop on my head or down my shirt collar. (I've had four commit such kamikaze attempts just since I started writing this newsletter.)

If you live in the southeast or midwest, you'll probably get invaded in the next few weeks too. Here's a link where you can learn all about these pesky, stinky, but apparently "good for us" critters. A hearty "um...thank you... I guess!" to the U. S. Department of Agriculture, for introducing these things into our country and bringing thousands of uninvited houseguests to my doorstep/ceiling -- and no doubt yours, as well.

I'm off to get my hat.

Now, onward to...

THIS WEEK'S PROGRAM:

Mr. President

Here's the fascinating, true story of the President who decided - right smack in the middle of his re-election campaign - to resign from office, because the United States faced a war. Which Mr. President was it? Well, you'll have to listen to the story (part history, part civics lesson & part mystery) and see if you can figure out who he was -- his identity isn't revealed until the end of the program. We think you'll find this first-rate episode of "Mr. President", first broadcast way back on July 17, 1947, to be a fascinating and very pertinent program as we come to the end of the 2004 Election countdown.

Resource: Want another great audio story about Presidential elections? One of our previous "living books for the ears",
"The Election of Thomas Jefferson?" is still online here for one more week.
Resource: The White House's own gallery of US Presidents. Excellent resource!
Resource: A Virtual Tour of the White House. Neat!

(DOWNLOAD LINK is BELOW. JUST SCROLL DOWN A BIT...)

That's it for this time! "Tune in" and enjoy!

Best Wishes,     The Erskine Family

UNEXPLAINED HEALTH PROBLEMS = FOOD ALLERGIES?

Can some of the food you eat be the cause of an unexplained chronic health problem? It might well be, if you have an undiscovered food allergy. Kim Blair, a friend of ours down the road has just finished a really amazing ebook detailing the story of how their 16-year-old daughter was suffering terribly from arthritis -- until by some careful investigation, they determined that it was simply an allergic reaction to some everyday foods! In "Allergy Detective", Kim has put together a simple system to help you determine if YOU or YOUR KIDS might be allergic to something you are eating. If anyone in your family has a chronic health problem, I'd suggest you take a look at this right away, and see if it might help you, too. Click here to visit www.allergydetective.com.

Okay, here are the links to this week's "Living Book for the Ears" programs:

Mr. President

READ THE INSTRUCTIONS below if you are unfamiliar with downloading a file or are having any problems with your download.

To download a program, RIGHT click (use the right hand button on your mouse) the link above, and "save target as" (or "save link as") to the directory of your choice.

The file should start downloading right away. If it doesn't, try it again, and follow these instructions carefully. (DON'T cut and paste this link into your web browser -- that will just PLAY the program over the internet (it will be jumpy and start & stop a lot), and will not DOWNLOAD the program. If you want to download it to your computer, you need to follow the above instructions.)

NOTE: If the file just starts playing over your computer right away, that's because you clicked the link with the LEFT hand button on your mouse. You need to click the RIGHT HAND button to download the whole show to your computer.

IF you right click the link and your computer does not allow you to "save target", you need to adjust your computer's security settings (or disable your "internet content advisor" settings) to allow downloaded files.

MAC USERS: In order to download these files, hold down the Control key then click the link with your mouse.  It will then download to the directory you choose.

If your download is unusually slow, it could be because our server is busy or overtaxed. You might try again at a later hour. It should - eventually - work fine.

This file will be available for the next week or two only, so don't put off downloading it if you want a copy.
