www.homeschoolradioshows.com presents...

The
Fifth Annual
MAKE-YOUR-OWN-RADIO-SHOW
Contest!

Woo hoo!!! It's back! Ready to have some fun and make your OWN radio show? We've got another really fun contest set up especially for homeschoolers of ALL ages. We want you to create your own old time radio program... write a script, do the sound effects, act it out, record it -- and then let us play it for thousands of families all around the world!

If you've enjoyed the radio shows that are featured free on our site...you know what you need to know to create your OWN audio "old time radio" story.

Your program does NOT need to be long or complicated. And it doesn't have to be "professional", by any means. Just use your cassette recorder, digital voice recorder or computer and have fun with it.

You can have as much of your family and friends involved in this as you want -- though, of course, we want homeschooled students to be the primary creators of your show.

What should your "radio show" be about? This year's theme is:

Abraham Lincoln

As you probably have heard, the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial begins in February 2008 and continues for the next two years. (The actual bicentennial of his birth is in 2009, so things are just getting warmed up!) This would be a GREAT way for you to learn more about our 16th President and stretch your kids' writing, acting and production skills as well.

Prizes will be awarded. GOOD prizes! Winning entries will be posted right here on our website, where thousands of families across the globe will be able to listen to and enjoy your creativity! Wouldn't it be neat to know there are folks on the other side of the world listening to YOUR show?

Okay... Here are the "Official Rules" for our contest

1) This contest is open to homeschooling families all over the world. Groups of homeschooled students & their families may also enter this contest. (In other words, if you want to put together a show with a bunch of your friends, go for it!)

2) Very Important: All  music and sound effects in your production must be original, or come from a public domain source. (Find someone to play an instrument for you if you can't yourself!) Please do not use material from previously published, copyrighted works. Doing so will disqualify your entry from our contest.

3) Entries in this year's competition must be based on some incident, anecdote or story related to ABRAHAM LINCOLN. Any kind of  story that has to do with Lincoln is fine. You could dramatize a story or incident from his growing up years on the frontier, or from his later years as  President.  You might even do a story about someone else who was influenced by his life and ideals. We strongly encourage you to be creative! Do a little digging and reading -- there are hundreds of books at the library and thousands of online sites related to Lincoln.  Learn something about his life and then pick out an episode or incident that would make a neat little program for your kids to perform. Build on what you read and expand the story... write your own dialogue... whatever you wish to do to put your own special "stamp" on it!

4) Length of your production can be anywhere from 3 to 20 minutes.

5) Entries can be submitted in digital format on a CD, or over the internet. The file must be in .wav or .mp3 format. No cassette entries please.

    * MP3 or WAV files can be emailed to us at: homeschoolradioshows@gmail.com  or you can post it on your own website and email us download instructions

    * CD/ cassette entries should be mailed to: Homeschoolradioshows Contest, P.O. Box 187, Canmer, KY 42722 USA

    * Along with your entry, please include:
            - The names and ages of students who have participated in the production.
            - Parent or adult leader's name, address & email address so we can contact you if necessary.

6) Entries should be emailed or postmarked no later than April 15, 2008. CDs will NOT be returned, so please make a copy of your program to keep for yourself.

7) Entries will be judged on educational and entertainment value. Please make sure your recording is clear and listenable, not muffled and hard to make out. Judges decision is final.

8) All entries automatically grant Homeway Press (that's us) the non-exclusive right to make their program available on the www.homeschoolradioshows.com website, and/or include their program on a CD compilation. In other words, you keep the Copyright on your own work, and can do with it what you wish, but you also agree to allow us the right to share it with folks via our website or on a CD collection.

9) Prizes to be awarded:
    1st Prize -- $100 US

    3rd Prize --  $25 US
